April 11 OCEANIA VA'ATRES GRANDE NOUVELLE
Aprés le Jeux du Pacifique Sud ou le Va'a est passé du Sport Optionnel au Sport Obligatoire, la FIV vient officiellement de passer une autre étape.
En effet depuis la semaine dernière nous sommes officiellement affilié à la OSFO (Olympic Sports Federation of Oceania). Une pas supplémentaire de franchi vers le CIO (Comité International Olympique).
Prochains objectifs : les jeux Pan American (Juillet à Rio Brésil) et les Jeux Commonwealth.

Shell Va'a est détroné par le Team OPT qui déjà le weekend dernier lors de la TnTv Vénus Va'a a mené toute la course jusqu'au dernier rush, sur une erreur de ravitaillement à laissé partir Shell va'a pour une 1ère victoire de l'année. Cette fois-ci malgré la 1ère étape gagné par Shell Va'a, le Team OPT s'est bien repris et a magistralement gagné la 2ème étape et en même temps le classement général des 2 étapes. Il faut noté en passant la bonne performance de Papeete Va'a lors de la 1ère étape qui pendant plus d'1 heure à tenu la 4ème place mais une erreur de cap lui coutera très chère puisqu'arrivé à la 16è place. Cette course se déroulera sous forme de circuit, dans la houle et les vagues avec transition dans le sable pour une durée de 2 heures environ. Nous organisons aussi une course de PADDLEBOARD et une démonstration de STAND UP SURFING le samedi 26 mai sur la vague de StBarbe. Historique :
Le Va'a a été inscrit pour la 1ère fois lors de jeux de Tahiti en Août 1995. Depuis le Va'a a toujours été un sport optionnel. Aujourd'hui le Conseil des Jeux à juger que le seul sport Océanien doit être un sport obligatoire, ce qui est fait. Nous sommes donc intégré au même titre que l'Athlétisme, le Football, la Natation, la Boxe etc....

Papeete Va’a sous le haut patronage du Député Maire de la Ville de Papeete de organise le Samedi 3 Mars 2007 la 4è Edition de sa course de V1, K1 et V1 avec dérive.
Intitulée ARI’I VA’A 1 o PAPEETE ce super chalenge partira de la plage Hitimahana dans la baie de Muriavai à Mahina pour arriver devant la place Toata à Papeete après avoir contourné le pâté de corail de To’a Tai.
La participation est en constante augmentation. L’année dernière deux cent vingt et un (221) va’a, kayak se sont alignés sur la ligne de départ, nous pensons, pour cette 4è édition, dépasser la barre des trois cent cinquante (350) engagés.
Ce grand rendez-vous de nos Ari’i deviendra un rendez-vous individuel incontournable car il ouvre l’année sportive ici à Tahiti et aussi sur le plan International.

Titled ARI'I VA'A 1 o PAPEETE this terrific all the way surfing chalenge will start from the Hitimahana beach of Muriavai Bay in Mahina to finish before the Toata place in Papeete after turning around the reef of To'a Tai.
The participation is in constant increasement. Last year, two hundred twenty one(221) va'a had enjoyed the surfing course, we think, that for this 4è edition, we'll pass participation of three hundred fifty (350) paddlers.
This big rendez-vous of our Ari'is will become an inescapable individual confrontation for them 'cause it opens the paddling year here in Tahiti and also on the International Race Calendar.

Nous avons été informé de la soudaine disparition de M.Edouard MAAMAATUA, personnage incontournable du Va'a en Polynésie Française, qui a tant contribuer au développement de cette discipline aujourd'hui implantée dans le monde entier.
Nous nous associons à votre peine à l'occasion de cette triste circonstance et vous laissons transmettre à ses proches les condoléances du mouvement sportif de Nouvelle-Calédonie.

C’est une perte immense pour le monde du va’a. Monsieur Edouard MAMAATUA n’était pas n’importe qui. C’était une « pointure » que je ne serai jamais et c’est avec tristesse que j’apprends sa disparition.

So sorry to hear about Edouard Maamaatua. My deepest sympathy to you and to his family. I know what it feels like. My father passed away this past October of a heart attack, it was sudden. I was with my father during his last moments and was trying to keep him awake so he can see my mother before he closed his eyes.
Loosing the people you care for and love of one of the toughest lessons that life has given us. Just as we were getting ready to open up the one year since my grandmother passed away, Oct. 10, my father died on Oct. 12. So this year, we'll be getting ready to open the one year for my father and two years for my grandmother.
Hope all is going well with you and work and life. Take care and thank you again for all your e-mails. Please do keep me on your mailing list.

J'étais venu le voir il y quelques temps à Tahiti pour parler avec lui du Va'a en métropole, passion qu'il m'avait transmise. Si toutefois tu assistais à la cérémonie de ses obsèques, j'aimerais que tu sois le porte parole de tout le bien que je pensais de lui ainsi qu'une grande partie des vieux "briscards" du va'a en métropole.

January 15 News from IVF : International Race SoftwareBy Linda Dresbach; IVF Assistant Secretary Kia Ora, Charly & Alan, I've been here at the New Zealand Nationals since Sunday and reviewing the race system with Alex and Maggie. Racing started today and all is running smoothly -- showers started during the 3rd race of the morning but it didn't impact the races. I'm currently working through the details of requirements for the Startline Race Manager software application that is currently licensed to New Zealand and hope to provide a detailed document to the IVF by the end of the week to better understand the capabilities of the application, what maintenancie and staffing is required to keep it current, how the data is collected and retained from event-to-event, and future capabilities that would benefit the IVF. Something that would be very helpfu to the IVF as we move into the V1 and Circuit event planning is that this system can provide the management of each event and would utilize the verified IVF paddlers for any and all events. As it is an internet based system, it can be managed from anywhere in the world. Looking forward to providing a proposal to the commitee in a few days. If you have any input or questions that I might need to discuss with the personnel here in New Zealand, please don't hesitate to email me (this address or my Blackberry email: linda.e.dresbach@us.pwc.com). Les courses ont débutées ce matin et se déroulent très bien – la pluie s’est invitée le matin dès la 3è course mais n’a eue aucun impact sur le déroulement des épreuves. Je suis entrain de travailler sur les détails requis pour le logiciel de course qui est sous licence de la Nle Zélande et j’espère pouvoir pour la fin de la semaine transmettre aux membres de la FIV un document détaillé du logiciel afin de comprendre les possibilités du logiciel. Quelle maintenance et personnel seront requis pour le maintenir d’actualité? comment les data sont enregistrées de compétition en compétition ainsi que d’autres aptitudes qui seront bénéfiques à la FIV. Ceci sera très utile à la FIV vu que nous prévoyons un circuit de V1, ce système pourra être utiliser pour toutes ces compétitions. Ce sera aussi un moyen de vérification des rameurs qui participent à toutes les compétitions Internationales de la FIV. Vu que c’est un système interne qui peut être utilise partout dans le monde. Linda January 01 Vaka Eiva 2006 Cook IslandsThe Cook Islands Steinlager Vaka Eiva 2006 was very successful in its third year running, with teams from throughout the Pacific, and from as far afield as Italy. Paddlers enjoyed a variety of conditions throughout the week of events, with extremely rough conditions for the V1 races on the first day of racing, rough conditions for the V6 iron race, and beautiful sunny weather for the Muri lagoon races and beach bbq, and hot humid flat conditions for the Pacific Cup around Rarotonga race. The V1 races saw paddlers having to prove themselves into some fierce headwind, and also demonstrating their surfing skills on a good down hill run. The Cook Islands Reuben Dearlove and Serena Hunter won the open mens and womens races, while Tahiti’s Dauphin Leopold won the master’s mens race, and Australia’s Di Clancy won the master’s womens race. Although the winds died down a little, conditions were still rough for the V6 iron races on the next day of racing on Monday, forcing a course change. Tahiti’s ROC won the womens race with Cook Islands Ngakau Toa not far behind, and NZ’s Waitakere ROC in third. New Zealand’s Team Goodyear won the mens race in a close race with Cook Islands Te Tupu and Ngakau Toa close behind in 2nd and 3rd. Team Goodyear dominated the mens’ events, also winning the 500m sprints, and the premiere race, the Pacific Cup around Rarotonga race. The around island race was held in hot flat conditions, and while reigning champions Te Tupu took an early lead, the strength and fitness of the New Zealand team showed through and they extended their lead after overtaking at the halfway mark winning in a time of 2.38.28, with Te Tupu just under two minutes behind in second, and Ngakau Toa taking out third. In the womens race Waitakere ROC led from the start winning in a new race record of 2.59.50, with Ngakau Toa in 2nd after overtaking Tahiti ROC about 10km from the finish. Coached by Mena Tautu, Ngakau Toa womens have come a long way in a short time. In 2005 they were some 15 minutes behind the NZ and Tahitian teams in the around island race, so were very happy this year to prove competitive and take silver in both the V6 iron and the Pacific Cup around island race. For the first time in the Vaka Eiva, a junior section was introduced, with the Cook Islands youngsters having the opportunity to race against the experienced Mooloolaba U19 paddlers in an ocean race and an 8km lagoon race. The Mooloolaba juniors won all their races except the 8km junior womens race which was won by the Cook Islands girls. Great experience for the Cook Islands youngsters, who hope to travel to Tahiti next year for further race experience. A lot of interest has already been shown in the 2007 Vaka Eiva with teams already wanting to register. While Tahiti ROC women have come to the Cook Islands for every Vaka Eiva, this is the first time a Tahitian mens team has taken part, and the Cook Islands look forward to welcoming future competition from its sister island Tahiti. Les 1, 2 & 3 Décembre dernier s'est déroulé la 1ère Coupe D'Amérique du Sud de Va'a sur le plan d'eau très agité de la Ville de Rio. Tous les plans d'eau étaient réunis. Du plat, mer de travers, vagues avant, mais surtout beaucoup de beau surf. December 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the 1st South America Va'a Cup was held during the Rio Va'a on a quite rough water. N'ayant pas suffisamment de va'a, ils se sont débrouillés en mettant en place des séries de 10Km de distance.

The International Va'a Federation (IVF) is looking forward for its International recognition by multiplying its International competitions.
